Layering: Transparent Fabrics and Handwork

  • Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (map)

January 12-13, 2019 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Join Heidi Parkes in this dynamic two day handwork class. Students will learn about composition, layering, fabric selection, and hand quilting, while each making layered quilt in a size of their choosing, ranging from 2x2’ to 5x5’. Students are encouraged to bring scrap threads, fabrics, and a variety of odd fabric bits that may look better layered or in tiny pieces than they do as yardage.  These fabrics will be thoughtfully placed, covered with a transparent piece of wholeclothfabric, and then hand quilted in place.  Heidi’s focus in hand quilting is on economy of movement, hand care, improvisation, clever knots, and encouraging a personality or feeling in the stitches.
