25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee Video Wins 3 Chicago-Midwest Emmy® Awards

Cedarburg, Wis. – 25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee is a world-wide project curated by artist Jennifer Kim Sohn to raise awareness of the global refugee crisis. 2300 stitchers from 37 different countries and all 50 states created over 2200 panels bound together in 407 long banners. The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts hosted the exhibition March 1-July 28, 2024. WMQFA was the only Midwest venue.

The museum worked with Milwaukee-based Plum Media and Hearst Marketing Resources to create the video which introduces the project and explains the installation through interviews with Sohn, panel makers, museum staff, and WMQFA's summer artist-in-residence. The video remains available for viewing on the museum's YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMZYWNlydHg

Says Executive Director Melissa Wraalstad: "We are ecstatic that the video won three Chicago-Midwest Emmy® Awards! Thank you to artist Jennifer Kim Sohn for entrusting us with this important and stunning exhibition. We knew it was special, and it's wonderful that the video and awards recognize that." The video, along and other communication tactics, helped WMQFA to triple their attendance.

"We couldn't be prouder of the talent we have here at Plum, and we're thrilled to see their efforts celebrated for this project." Eric Conley and Dan Cary, Partners at Plum Media, stated. “José and the team did a fantastic job not only capturing the voices of those featured but also bringing the exhibit itself to life as a central character in the story.”

The video won awards for Outstanding Achievement for Human Interest - Short and Long Form Content; Outstanding Craft Achievement for Graphics Arts/Motion Graphics/Art Direction/Set Design; and Outstanding Crafts Achievement for Editing - Short Form Content.

The museum’s current exhibit is Pattern, Rhythm and Play and features quilts from the museum's collection, open through December 1. For more information on current and upcoming exhibitions, visit www.wiquiltmuseum.com.
