WMQFA Launches The Quarantine Quilt Community Art Project

Cedarburg, Wis. – The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts wants your help creating The Quarantine Quilt. The museum launched a collaborative art project to give everyone a chance to stay home, stay safe, and keep creating.

WMQFA invites everyone to create a block to be included in The Quarantine Quilt community art project, to be displayed at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts.

Blocks should be 12”x12”, with a 1” inch seam allowance (i.e. don’t decorate that one inch on each edge). They may be embroidered, embellished, pieced, painted, collaged…as long as it has a 12” x 12” fabric base and can be sewn together, it’s perfect!

Completed blocks should be mailed to: Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts; c/o The Quarantine Quilt; P.O. Box 562; Cedarburg, WI 53012.

MQFA will accept blocks for a month after the quarantines have ended. The museum wants everyone to stay safe and healthy and practice social distancing. Please mail the blocks only when it is safe for you to do so. The museum asks that artists include their names and locations on the back of their block and encourages everyone to post their completed blocks to the museum’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

WMQFA Executive Director Melissa Wraalstad: “We know everyone is facing uncertain and frightening times. But art has the unique power to bring us together. Even as we self-isolate and quarantine, this project reminds us that we are still a community, and we can create something beautiful to express ourselves.”

Help us, and our communities, make the best of a strange situation and create while sheltering in place! Visit https://www.wiquiltmuseum.com/the-quarantine-quilt for more information and images of completed blocks.
