Creating the Illusion of Depth on a 2D Plane with Deborah Fell

  • Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (map)

October 8 – October 12

This 5 day intensive course, taught by Deborah Fell, uses mixed media materials along with fabric to create the illusion of depth in a two-dimensional plane; in our case, a quilt. Through use of these materials along with principles of design, students will create small studies using these techniques. Specifically, overlapping, placement, size, value, and focus, will be areas of concentration using the collage approach. Students will walk away with a better sense of command over creating the illusion of depth on a two-dimensional plane.

Artist Biography: Deborah Fell is a full time studio artist committed to the quilt medium. She is a professional member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), Surface Design Association (SDA) and Art Quilt Network (AQN). Deborah’s art focuses on abstract, organic shapes while using surface treatment such as dyeing and painting fabric, photography and reclaimed materials.
