Time: 9:00 to 4:00 pm each day, with a break for lunch

Class Fee: $350/Non-Members; $325/ Members (with membership discount code)

Class Description:

Circles can be found throughout the natural world and in human designs from diverse cultures across millennia. Circles appeal to us on so many levels – they are simple and elegant; they’re curved, organic, and smooth, with no sharp corners; they evoke a comforting sense of completeness and totality; they’re in the hugs that embrace us and the nests that protect baby birds. Circles are as familiar as the dot of an “I” or the period at the end of a sentence. They come to us in images of the Earth from space. Circles are as tiny as a subatomic particle and as large as a black hole. In this workshop, we explore and create a sampler or small art quilt of circular motifs in bead embroidery. Working with a wide variety of beads, we will learn, design, and stitch a diverse range of circular forms that could also be used in future stitching on art quilts, garments, and other fiber art.

Lecture Description: Owner, Karla Overland, will bring you along on the journey from a simple idea to the current day Cherrywood Challenge that attracts quilters from all over the globe. For the past decade, Cherrywood Fabrics has provided a platform for quilters to express their originality and skills in the form of a challenge. A few simple guidelines and a select number of colors are paired with a popular theme to stimulate creativity. Because the participants must use only hand-dyed fabric from Cherrywood, the end result is cohesive and impactful.

As a special treat, local artisans will be on hand to talk about their own works that resulted from the challenge. Enjoy a dessert table and the Monarch Chrysalis exhibit hanging at WMQFA. After the lecture, feel free to stay and explore the museum’s current exhibitions.

Documentation Day at Crazy Quilters Quilt Show

Saturday, March 23 from 9am to 4pm & Sunday, March 24 from 10am to 3pm.

Find out more about your quilted treasure by having our expert volunteers look at your quilt. Pre-registration strongly recommended. $15 per quilt (admission to Crazy Quilters Quilt Show is separate and not included in Documentation fee). Admission is $7 for one day and $10 for two days. Click here for Quilt Show ticket information.

Calling all quilts and the people who love them! Help us save the stories in the stitches by bringing your precious family heirlooms (or modern creations) to Documentation Day at the Crazy Quilters Quilt Show at Parkview Middle School in Mukwonago, WI. We will record the history of the quilt, create a detailed description, take a digital image, and save this information in our archives.

We will include your quilt in an online database, the Quilt Index, where it can be accessed and studied for years to come, at no charge. Our trained volunteers can tell you when and how your antique quilt was made, and give suggestions on proper care and storage.

During the documentation event, our volunteers will help you fill out a detailed form (Quilt-Documentation). You may already have some information, and can bring this along to the documentation.
