Spring University Days
The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts’ popular two-day program of classes, lectures and workshops returns May 12 and 13, 2017. Each day features a keynote speaker. Friday includes a selection of up to four classes. Saturday includes a selection of a one-hour class and a three-hour class. All classes are taught by Midwestern fiber artists. You’ll also have a delicious catered lunch and access to the museum’s Barn Gallery, which will be exhibiting Quilt National ’15.
This year’s keynote speakers include Yvonne Cory, speaking on Friday, May 12, on the topic “The Charm of the Full-bib Apron.” Cory collects, studies and re-purposes vintage linens. Family heirlooms from her own family, plus hundreds of additional aprons inspire her to promote appreciation of these textiles that have been integral to women’s lives. Cory will also teach a class on Friday, May 12, called “Fun Creating with Vintage Linens.”
On Saturday, May 13, Amanda Jean Nyberg will be our keynote speaker. Her topic is “No Scrap Left Behind.” This is also the title of her second book, coming out this February. Nyberg blogs as the popular “crazymomquilts,” encouraging quilters to save, organize and use their scraps to create new treasures. Nyberg will also be teaching a three-hour workshop on Saturday, May 13, titled “Spin Class: Make Your Quilts Your Own.”
Classes, trunk shows, in-depth workshops and lectures are offered in a variety of fiber arts media, including: quilting, punch needle embroidery, beading, pattern fitting, hand piecing, yoga for makers, English paper piecing, the history of needlework samplers, quilt travel, appraisals, choosing quilting designs, and more. Tours of our Barn Gallery will focus on the current exhibit, Quilt National ’15.
You can register here online, in person at the museum or by mail. Brochures, registration forms, and detailed descriptions of our offerings are also available at the museum.
