New Museum on August 3rd, 2011

In less than one week, we will be celebrating our move into our new home! The barn is a beehive of activity, each day bringing huge changes as we set up displays, stock the new Museum Gift Shop, and make last-minute preparations for the Grand Opening Events August 11 and 12.

On August 11, join us in celebrating the opening with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Get your first look at our new exhibit, “Quilt & Fiber Arts Celebration: An Extravaganza of Vintage and Contemporary Fiber Arts and Quilts,” featuring treasures from our own collection and exquisite samples of a wide array of fiber arts.

Come back on Friday from 9 to 3 for free lectures and demonstrations. In the morning, Kay Walters, Luella Doss, Carol Butzke and Joyce Krueger will lecture on log cabin themes in traditional crafts. Then Rod Buffington, an Illinois artist, will give a talk about how log cabin quilts have influenced his creations. In the afternoon, Maggi Gordon will demonstrate log cabin foundation piecing techniques and lead a bed turning demonstration.

Most of all, this is a time for us to celebrate and give thanks to our community, our generous donors, and our amazing volunteers. Without your support, we could not have realized this dream!
