Barn Blast 6/24/11 – Very Special Volunteer – Vicky Wolf
Special Volunteer: Vicky Wolf
Why does a woman who holds down three jobs while living on an 80-acre elk ranch make the time to volunteer at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts? Just ask Vicky Wolf, avid quilter, college teacher, benefits coordinator and health information management consultant.
“I get to meet new people that share my passion for quilting and fiber art,” says Vicky. “Volunteering enables me to escape the daily routine of work, wash, house cleaning, etc. and spend time with the passion that I love. I always walk away more inspired. Volunteering for the museum also makes me feel like I am a part of the history of quilts and fiber art.”
Vicky’s creations include prize-winning Strawberry Challenge quilts like the one pictured below (the Ice Cream Cone Quilt, which won third place in the 2009 contest).
Check out her Berry Jar Quilt, a second place award winner from the 2008 contest, with the close-up of the ripe berries. Don’t they look good enough to eat?!
You’ll be able to see her 2011 entry, along with others, if you visit the museum during Strawberry Festival & Quilt/Hooked Rug Documentation Days this Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. til 5 p.m. for the festivities.
IT’S NOT TOO LATE!
You can still drop off your Strawberry Challenge quilts at the Museum
Any and all quilts featuring the strawberry challenge fabrics will be hung at the museum during Festival. Remember this is a viewers choice challenge. Please drop off your quilts by 5pm on Friday at the museum office!
Come visit our Food Booth while you are at Strawberry Fest!
The Museum will have its food and beverage booth on Washington Avenue again this year. We are serving pulled pork BBQ, Brisket, grilled chicken and Strawberry brats again this year. Or, come for a refreshing beverage at our bar. All funds rasied at the food booth will support the facility operations when we open the new facitlity later this summer.
You can park at the Museum grounds and take the free hayride shuttle to downtown. Avoid the hassle of trying to find a parking spot downtown! Drop in at the lower level of the barn and vote on the Strawberry Challenge Quilts and watch how our expert staff details a quilt documentation!
