Barn Blast 5/ 6/11- Construction Update
Construction Update
In the past few weeks our construction crews have made real progress on the new facility! We have completed the drywall, finished almost two thirds of the stone walls, erected the new light-posts, fired up the radiant and forced air heaters, added electricity and water and have sided the new addition in rough cedar tongue and groove siding. In the next few weeks we finish the reclaimed barn board siding on the barn, add hardwood floors to the exhibit gallery and new addition, install kitchen cabinets and an elevator.

This past Thursday a dedicated crew of volunteers came to the museum to paint. We managed to prime the entire first floor walls and ceilings in one day…a beautiful Spring Day at the farm. Without our volunteers this project would be way behind schedule.
The barn floor was leveled to prepare an even surface for the new wood floors to come. It certainly looks different than last Spring! The timbers shine against a fresh floor.
As we move to complete the project the barn is beginning to look “old” again! The “new” stone walls bring back the look that makes this farm a special place to visit. Reclaimed barn boards go on starting next week. New doors will be installed on the lower level that will look just like the “old” double dutch doors. A surprise screen and storm door will be installed behind them to provide natural light and fresh air into the classrooms on the lower level.
Saturday, May 7, we will be gathering again to put the finish paint coat on the walls. If you have the time and are willing, we can use all the help we can muster to paint! Bring a roller and join us anytime between 9-3 pm!
