Deanna with her “Barn” and “Farmhouse” bags

The Autumn issue of “Haute Handbag” features the Koval Barn Challenge creations of our own dedicated volunteer, Deanna Peterson. Deanna made two bags for the challenge this summer, one representing our barn and the other our farmhouse. Deanna’s bags won First Prize in our competition, and earned herself national recognition in this prestigious journal.

After quilting bedcovers for several years, Deanna turned her talents to handbags and notebook covers. Using a technique she calls “crazy quilt/flip and turn,” she mixes a variety of textures and surfaces, adds embellishments like homemade buttons, beads, ribbon and embroidery, and turns her work into pieces of art.

Deanna works under the label “Bright As Day Designs,” and blogs about her process on her website, www.brightasdaydesigns.com . Samples of Deanna’s work are offered for sale at our Museum Gift Shop.

Deanna is now offering her award-winning barn and farm bags for sale at the Museum Gift Shop. Half of the proceeds from the sale of these two bags will go to the benefit of the museum.

  • Just fabulous! I have seen this designer for years in Door County but her creativity always amazes me. You are so lucky to have her as a volunteer!
